Erik Conklin, M.A., Ed.D.
Erik Conklin, M.A., Ed.D., is a coach and teacher who has taught and worked at many levels of education: K-12, college and university, and adult extended learning. His teaching and coaching experience includes working with athletes, students, parents, researchers, teachers, and leaders.
His academic and research interests include mindfulness, the social-emotional aspect of learning, neuroscience applied to learning, and practical strategies to solving problems in leadership capacities. His research was awarded a David and Lucile Packard Foundation Research Fellowship for Children, Families, and Communities for research excellence.
Erik has worked extensively as a coach and has brought the love of exercise into hundreds of people’s lives. As a USA Cycling coach he has guided athletes to rise to their best athletic ability. As a cross-country running coach he has introduced the love of running in nature to many people from a wide variety of backgrounds. And as a strength and conditioning coach he has helped soccer teams extend their skills to become dominating forces in the second half of their games.
Erik has also served extensively on committees, including the Western Association of Schools and Colleges, the California Continuation Education Association Model Schools program, and several Master’s Thesis projects. All applications and degrees were successfully certified or awarded with help from his guidance.
As a regular presenter and consultant for private businesses, universities, and peer-reviewed conferences, Erik enjoys sharing his work in order to help people and organizations rise to the next level of performance.
Erik is also a Compassion Cultivation Facilitator and a graduate of the Compassion Cultivation Training (CCT) teacher certification program at the Center for Compassion and Altruism Research and Education, in the Medical School at Stanford University.
Erik also has special training in Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Response, having taught Vehicles, Mass Care and Feeding, and Shelter Operations for the American Red Cross. Volunteer experience includes more than 15 years with the American Red Cross responding as a staff member for the Disaster Services Logistics Team for major fires, as well as relocation assistance to people affected by Hurricane Katrina. He has also been trained to teach active shooter response in schools and businesses (A.L.I.C.E. training). Additionally, Erik is certified to teach Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) by the San Diego County Office of Emergency Services trainings and has been certified as a Disaster Corps team member for the State of California.
This wide variety of experiences brings with it seemingly disparate training which all combine to create a special set of skills that lead to a special eye for systems analysis, as well as a focus on individual growth patterns and opportunities.
